We are a small non-for-profit organizations in Riverdale, Illinois that was started in 2012, by Arnelia Simmons Hines for her great nieces and nephews. Arnelia wanted her young family members to start preparing for their financial future at a young age. In 2014, Arnelia began the process of taking the program public due to the interest of others. The program is now an approved charitable organization.
We're helping the kids to implement the lesson plans provided by themint.org, and practicalmoneyskills.org. We also encourage them to visit mymoney.gov
To create an unique hands-on experience for the kids, we allow them to view actual mortgage statements, utilities bills and credit card statements on a monthly basis so they can see how credit works. We visit wholesalers and retailers to compare prices and take them to the grocery store to shop for their parent(s). The kids are taught to earn money as a team, split the earnings and open individual bank accounts. The kids create flyers and carry out word-of-mouth marketing to inform people of their services and products to earn money for their future.
We want the kids to have fun learning about money as they earn it, thus we're keeping it very basic. We believe that this program will help improve the kids' social behavior. We also believe the Bible is the means by which God provides principles for living in a way that protects from harmful thinking and behavior.
Our mission is to motivate, guide and assist kids in starting their own business and to teach them money management skills, using biblical principles. We want to help kids to create a route of economic independence.
Our goal is for each kid to grow up to be financially independent and productive young adults.
The program is in need of a passenger van to transport kids and equipment.
We're also in need of a facility for the group to have our meetings and events.
Meetings have been temporarily canceled. We're in the process of securing a more permanent meeting facility for the group. Thank you for your patience during this time.
Your attendance for all scheduled meetings must be confirmed by calling (708) 880-0174, so that space can be reserved.
Food will be provided for each child during the scheduled meetings. Parents are encouraged to attend. This program is for ages 10 & up.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
